The Winning “Ticket”

Contestants on the Biggest Loser are on the show to lose a tremendous amount of weight. Their goal to drop pounds is accomplished by reducing food consumption and initiating an exercise plan.

And with that, they are in for the surprise of their life… discovering their own stamina!

As the Dose watches these contestants struggling in the gym, screaming at and crying to their trainer, I can’t help but empathize. At that time it does seem impossible to do one more push-up, one more sit-up, one more… fill in the blank with anything that looks and feels tortuous.

But at the end of the season, you see the results… results that could never happen without perseverance.

Though I’m not a contestant, this situation the Dose understands. That “one more whatever” looks and feels like the straw that’s going to break the back… but it doesn’t.

And then, yet another straw is placed on the back and I’m thinking – NO, no more straws  – but they keep coming and still the back does not break.

This “camel” just learned what she is made of. Tough lesson. Invaluable lesson.

Perseverance: never easy, often difficult, and guaranteed grand reward.

One of my favorite quotes: “It’s not the load that breaks you down, it’s the way you carry it.” (Lena Horne). We can all carry a lot of “straws” if we carry them properly!
