What’s not to like about a pie? There’s the crust that consists of butter… lots of butter! The pie filling can range from fruits to pecans. When topped with whipped cream or ice cream, well, then we really do have something delectable.
Enthusiastic about the start of a new opportunity, the Dose was immediately served pie as I took note of the less than optimal circumstance for what I thought I deserved. This pie I did not request nor did I ever crave even a sliver, yet it came with no calories.
The pie? Humble. Yes, the Dose was served humble pie as a reminder to check my pride at the door.
Not that I had the option to give back the pie or request a different filling… I just needed to accept it and grow from it. And with that, the Dose, with a slightly bowed head, took this pie with grace, as it was better than eating crow!
Humility is an attribute usually thought of as not appealing and a characteristic of a lesser person… one with no self-esteem. But this is quite the contrary. A humble man thinks more often about others and less often about himself.
Humility comes with privileges, as it’s often the humbled that serve this pie to the proud!
