Can you hear me now?

There are everywhere and anywhere…except in Montana. Can you guess what I’m talking about? iPods.

As the Dose strolls along walkways, shops in grocery stores, or rides a bus, she notes that the majority of people are wearing earphones. I suppose their desire is to tune out the world and listen only to their choice sound. As for me, my MP3 player is strictly used at the gym… a place where I need to tune out and disassociate my thoughts from my actions.

While spending time on a cattle ranch in Montana I learned from young ranchers that iPods are the farthest thing from their ears. Whether it is driving cattle, laying fences, or bailing hay, it’s the sound of nature, earth, and life they desire to hear.

I was once told that wearing earphones would affect my hearing; specifically damage my eardrums. Today, the Dose believes the “affect my hearing” relates to blocking out the world.

The Montana ranchers are wise – they are hearing the best sounds.
