Heart Holes

It was a hot, humid afternoon in July and the man at Starbucks was ordering hot chocolate. If this request didn’t get the Dose’s attention nothing was going to.

The dialogue began.

“Interesting order,” I stated.

His response… “Something has to fill in the potholes of my heart.”

Just as potholes in the road are visible corrosions from the elements, I imagine that, in the human heart, potholes are corrosions from the emotions of life. And, like potholes in the road, heart holes certainly cause damage if you don’t see them nor address them.

My heart potholes most likely come from the hurts others unconsciously inflicted on me, my own self-doubts, and the cravings for those deceased loved ones. I don’t want my heart holes to have an ill affect on my life or those around me so I need to “spot and fill.” Spot the hole and fill it in with the makings of my heart… love!

So, seeing that chocolate is a symbol of love, I guess the man was on the right track on that hot and humid summer day.

Do a self-heart exam… take note of the potholes and fill them in with love – love of yourself and love of others around you.
