Lessons from a Colonscopy

Colonoscopies don’t receive favorable reviews hence the Dose delayed the inevitable… the routine colon cancer screening procedure.

What prompted the Dose to finally complete the test… integrity, walking the talk, peer pressure, and just plain common sense!

Anxiety was my constant companion the day before the test but more so in the hospital’s preparation room. This anxiety resulted from the hospital gown adorning my body and the IV running through my vein. You see the Dose was held captive, helplessly sitting in the passenger seat of this expedition… I was neither in charge nor in control; I was totally at the mercy of the doctor and nurse!

And then came the ah ha moment… some times we just need to let others lead us, especially when they are the more qualified “drivers.” The critical piece is to realize when it’s necessary to move out from the driver’s seat … this being one of those times.

Lesson learned from a colonoscopy: some times it’s appropriate to put on a Johnny and rely on others and be anxious despite this – it’s normal, just like my test result!
