“Life” after “death”

In the world of antibiotics, there’s a phenomenon referred to as the “post-antibiotic effect.” It means exactly what it says – there is an effect from the antibiotic that continues even after the drug is gone. Pretty good deal – take the drug and its effects outlast its time in the body!

Wouldn’t it be nice if other things had a post-effect. For example a one-dollar bill would provide future transactions without the need for payment or a small bit of food would produce a feeling of satiation over a very extended period of time.

The Dose has experienced a post-effect. Though my sweetheart, Paul, died three years ago today, his love remains within my heart. His thinking, ways, and style have influenced me during his life and now during his post-life. In other words, Paul “continues” in my life despite his absence.

This post-effect was unexpected, yet one that we are all capable of giving to others. A woman’s perfume scent lingers, spoken words are remembered, and images remain in the mind’s eye.

Provide your post-effect – make it positive, make it indelible!
