The asterisk. A superscripted notation placed at the end of a word to signify an omitted point.

I love the asterisk: it’s appearance and what it provides. The Dose loves it so much that I wish it could be used in the verbal speak.

And with that thought, please allow me to process that wish.

The words never and always are the opposite extremes of each other. These are two words the Dose has stated many times over. Until there was that lighted bulb… recalling doing something I said I’d never do and not doing what I said I always do.

So, do I still say always and never? You bet, but for some it is stated with an asterisk!

This asterisk provides clarification, details, or contingencies.

I think we can all agree that people can keep their promises unless circumstances change, no longer making it conducive to come through as vowed.

And one should be understanding if someone who said they would never do something actually does it… again: another situational application adjustment!

Words, whether written or spoken, come with an asterisk—a symbol not always visible.

Though we should communicate responsibly… we also need to hear reasonably.

  1. We seem to innately think of the asterisk as understood when we speak, but do not when others speak to us. Thanks for the reminder to hear reasonably. 🙂
