Spring is complete with gardens in full bloom and playgrounds in full motion. Children sliding on the slides, swinging on the swings, and venturing across those monkey bars. And it’s the monkey bars that got the Dose thinking!
As a child I would challenge myself on that apparatus, mustering up all of my upper body strength. Letting go of the bar behind me was necessary to bring me forward and across.
Letting go. Two short, simple words glued together to form the most frightening sentence… well maybe this is true only for the Dose.
Letting go. To me this means deleting, eliminating, saying good-bye to what is known, comfortable, and seemingly secure.
My “letting go” experiences include letting go of a previous job in order to enjoy the new job, letting go of a friendship that hampered my personal growth, and – after the death of a love one – letting go of life I had known. Not easy, but necessary to move my life forward.
Hanging on the monkey bars too afraid to let go leaves the child dangling, only looking forward but never moving into the future.
What’s holding you back? Let go. Live.
