Martha Stewart is known for her successful homemaking business. Also known for being so meticulous that others could fear hosting her!
My mother loved entertaining. One simple dinner party would take a week of planning and preparing. Every component of the menu was made from scratch… every ingredient was fresh and hand prepared and absolutely no bakery items were ever served. China pieces were lined with paper doilies to appropriately display the delicacies. Details were as refined as Ms. Stewart’s directions in her Living magazine.
In earlier homemaking days, the Dose followed mother’s ways.
Today… well, life is seemingly busier, so preparation time for dinner parties appears non-existent. I have two options: cut corners or entertain less frequently.
Really now, will my guest know that the Dose purchased precut, washed green beans? Will they know that the house wasn’t dusted and shined within the past week? As for the baked goods… no, I’m with my mom… no bakery, just an easier-to-prepare dessert still served on a doily!
Entertaining… it’s not difficult and it need not be time consuming… it’s to be fun and a memory maker. Cut the corners, accept the dust, and if necessary, call the bakery!
