Lemonade Stand in the Middle of Winter

Most children test their hand at entrepreneurship with a lemonade stand in the middle of summer. Perfect time to serve up a paper cup full of refreshing lemonade.

The key to their success is the climate! A lemonade stand in the middle of winter would be like serving up hot soup on a hot August night…crazy, huh?!

Back in 2016, I hosted a fundraising event for a non-profit. The event consisted of selling my handmade greeting cards with the goal to raise $1,000. Sounded like a crazy idea, much like an ill-timed lemonade stand. Yet I was able to achieve this goal from a small number of very generous attendees!

With that historical success, I ventured out with my “lemonade stand in winter” once again… this time, cluelessly marketing the Dose of Donna book!

With uptake from some opportunities, and none from others, I was reminded that year-round lemonade is not for everyone… yet I persevered.

My determination led to opportunities to be interviewed on the a podcast, on a local media channel, and for a town newspaper.

Remember, successful and crazy ideas typically start as that lemonade stand in winter…
