True Confessions

True confessions of Dose of Donna… something my mother took to the grave… I failed the driver’s permit. Yes, that simple test that determines one’s knowledge of the laws of the road. How did I fail? I thought I knew it all so I never read the permit book.

Ever meet a know-it-all. I have to believe that we’ve all been one at one time or another. And you would think that, after failing this driver’s test, I would have learned my lesson. But I didn’t. After achieving a graduate degree, the Dose continued on her merry way thinking she knew it all. Finally, I was stopped dead in my tracks (yet once again) when proven wrong, incorrect, and incompetent!

Today the Dose is ready to say, “I don’t know” and investigate whatever it is I’m uncertain of. How freeing it is to not be a “know-it-all.” And the side effect: the Dose is more welcomed wherever she is.

It’s nice to know many things. Nothing wrong with being smart. It’s being a “smarty pants – know-it-all” that’s unattractive.

Let’s be real, truly knowing that, like everyone else, we don’t know it all.
