The other day an acquaintance referred to me as a well-disciplined person.
Me? Really? Did this person not know that I can eat an entire sleeve of Oreo cookies in one sitting? And let me not be remiss in mentioning the times I go on shopping sprees!
But in reality – 85%-ish of the time – the Dose is disciplined, and I thank my parents for that.
All in the name of love… as children we were raised with practicing manners to encourage respect for others and, so that we might learn right from not-so-right, there were consequences for disobeying.
Call it tough love if you want, but back then I knew my parents loved me and were always there for me. Always, despite not bailing us out or coming in to rescue us from ill decisions! A great strategy for us girls to make better decisions.
Discipline seems to have a negative connotation, yet without the invisible guardrails of discipline, there is the proclivity for going astray.
Though my parents are now both deceased, their discipline taught me well and endures to this day.
Discipline – an act of love from parents to children… and to self!
