The other day I was listening to one of my favorite musical duos – Everything but the Girl.
Odd name yet outstanding music… at least to the Dose.
Listening to the lyrics of their song “The heart remains a child” got me thinking… are our hearts really like that of a child’s? Maybe not in size, but in how the child loves, thinks, and feels.
This then led me to watch children’s behavior and recall my own heart as a child.
Back then, my heart was all about me. I wanted what I wanted and—most importantly—became visibly sad when expectations were not met… specifically not being accepted, appreciated, or adored (aka loved to my liking).
Truth be told, today there are rare days when I tend to bow down to my childish heart and consider pouting over uncontrollable situations. How crazy is that?!
Ever been there? A time when the adult you sulked and whined, too?
The heart of a child in us can do this to us… hence the song’s lyrics.
The size of the heart is baked into our DNA; the actions displayed from the heart are under our control.
Being child-like is acceptable… being childish, not so much!
