“I wear Spanx… sometimes. Do you?”
This was the start of my response to questions asked from a lovely woman in a dress shop!
The Dose is frequently told that I’m quite transparent and open to sharing. In this case, it could have been considered oversharing.
Why share such a fashion “secret?”
Well, this customer was trying on a dress. Not just any dress… but a collection piece from a local dress designer!
She loved the dress but had concerns about the fit. The woman expressed her thoughts specifically to me. “Does it fit me well? Do my lumps and bumps show?”
Questions like this are challenging to answer because they ask for either a “yes” or a “no” … no wiggle room (pun indented) left for ambiguity.
And, let’s be truthful, lumps and bumps happen!
Wanting to be helpful in this situation and not jump in with a direct answer, instead of telling her what to do, I shared what I have done in such an outfit situation.
Recommendations, suggestions, and directives can be helpful to others, particularly when “the others” know we have firsthand experiences.
Caring is to share our relatable actions… to help by example and not just with directive words.

So funny and wise!
Thank you, Swati… I did laugh when I brought up my confession of wearing Spanx (sometimes!).
