Ever been so desperate that you made a not-so-good decision?
The Dose has been guilty of this.
One of those times was shortly after my mother passed away. Feeling grief, alone, and clueless… I found myself desperate and wrongly motivated to co-invest in property that was ill thought out.
I wanted what I wanted and, worse, I used someone to get it. Greed, selfishness, and basically wrong motives drove me from desperation to destruction.
What was the destruction? Too many years of misery and loss of an investment.
Wrong motives do lead one down a path they never dreamed of.
Ask anyone who was desperate, yet ignored the red flags, warning signs, and advice from wise people.
When people tell me what they are up to, I ask them what their motive is.
One woman told me she was getting married, with only mothering on her mind.
You already know how that marriage worked out. It didn’t!
Same holds true for colleagues motivated to advance their careers only for the title, power, and money… I have seen those over-steppers advance and ultimately fall off and be thrown out of the company!
Check your motives – anything causing you desperation just may lead to your destruction.

A powerful and very honest post. I think it take courage and clear-eyed honesty for Dose to write this observation.
Thank you, Bob.
That event was many decades ago… it is embarrassing to share but it’s truth and if someone can learn from me then it is worth sharing!
Excellent advice, Donna. I think about that often when advising my clients, but I should apply it more to myself! Thanks for the reminder.
We all guilty of this along our journey… glad this was a reminder for you!
