Rewind the tape – it’s March 23, 2007 circa 8 AM… I received news that I could barely process – Paul died in his sleep. By the end of the day I faced reality – the man who captured my heart, a treasure I held tightly and patiently waited to share for so very long – my soul mate – was no longer here.
What was I to do…options included escapism…I chose to face this situation head-on. In this choice I knew I needed help – professional help as well as help from those who know me well. So, over the past year I hung out with such people…people who let me fully grieve this monumental loss while gently “holding my hand” so that I could function each day to the best of my abilities.
Now that a year has past, I not only remain in love with my Paul but I show a smile instead of tears when I speak of our beautiful love story. The bonus is my renewed appreciation for those who rallied around me.
Life brings us surprises along the way…some are happy, some are sad. Whatever the surprise, bring in the troops – don’t do surprises alone. In good times or bad times, life must be shared.
