“Donna, you are a loser!”

Now that I have your attention… what is this dose all about?

It’s about context.

You see, I was once called out as a loser because I lost at playing the game Mexican Train!

Saying these types of words without context can lead to a multitude of misinterpretations. People could be defamed, dismissed, or damaged for life.

Don’t worry, I wasn’t.

Sometimes context is intentionally left out, allowing information to be misconstrued.

Ever reach an unjustified conclusion because context was misrepresented or not stated?

As a curious person who likes to talk (!), asking questions – as simple as, “Tell me more?” – is my modus operandi to seek the context!

Statements, particularly those that don’t seem to align with what is known or believed, beg for clarifying questions to be asked. And questions about the information source need to be asked as well.

Other than received first-hand, information is subject to what the source wants to share, remembers to share, or is given to share.

Words build a sentence… context completes the whole story!

    Happy New Year!

  2. This is a timely post as the media (of all kinds) are guilty of accidentally or deliberately ignoring or taking out context. So yes, Dose, we all should be asking more questions to capture full context.

    Nice work. #writingcontext #factfinding
