Expectancies

The Dose is on a “mission” to spread the concept that expectations need to be “right sized” … not lowered.

Lowering expectations can be translated as reducing, downgrading, caving in. This is degrading to our minds and soul when we lessen our desires, don’t you think?

A right-sized expectation recognizes reality.

We can’t expect things from people who don’t have the ability or capability to do certain things or act a certain way.

During my professional life, I was faced with many projects that were detail oriented. Details are not me, so there were times when I struggled to carry through what was expected. In short order, these bosses figured out I can only be so detailed. Case closed!

As I believe that each person has specific behaviors, certain habits, and a scope of competencies, expectations need to line up with who they are.

Expectations also need to be shared to ensure a desired outcome… even, and maybe particularly more so, in a marital partnership!

Being frustrated when people don’t meet our expectations can be avoided, it’s all a matter of right sizing … for their sake, and ours!

  1. Bob – thank you… it’s a pet peeve of mine as people tell me to lower my expectations! 🙂
