Along life’s journey, we are told not to forget to smell the roses, enjoy the good times, and celebrate whenever possible!
The Dose agrees—and let me add to this list: remember to acknowledge the strangers in your path!
This may sound strange, particularly to those who don’t know me, but I love talking with strangers. Strangers, including me, have a way of sharing more than they would with those who know them.
Once, I had such a lovely conversation with a convention hall staff member that she invited me to a soirée being held that night at the hall!
Today, I frequently go on walks in my neighborhood. The people I meet along the way are folks with dogs +/- baby strollers, and my favorites: the mail carrier; employees of FedEx, UPS, and Amazon; and the utility fix-it-folks!
Each one tends to receive a “Hello” from me … and sometimes a bit more of a conversation!
Through the decades, I found that people—regardless of whether they are shy, introverted, or scared of strangers—smile back at me as an expression of gratitude for being acknowledged.
Being seen is a human desire.
Ask anyone in solitary confinement!
