On the count of three… One… Two… Two and a half…. Two and three quarters…
Anything could be happening after that statement is verbalized.
Growing up, the Dose heard those counts often. What I didn’t expect was hearing them from my driving instructor. The count began when I reached a stop sign. The direction was for me to stop, and to go only after the count of three.
Although those lessons were quite a long time ago, the Dose has not forgotten this great advice. Unfortunately, however, I start counting to three once I see the stop sign, so the Dose is guilty of pausing instead of stopping at such signs.
After numerous instances of placing foot in mouth and interrupting people’s conversation just to have my say, the Dose now practices this “count of three” outside of the stop sign. That would be silently counting to three after a person stops talking before I respond. (Of course this would not apply when participating in a game show!)
Repeat after me: 1. 2. 3.
