Time and Place: Outside of a Massachusetts Dunkin Donuts on a Monday in January, 1992.
The Scene: News reporter with a camera man searching for customers to interview about the recently aired 60 Minutes episode with Steve Kroft and Mr. and Mrs. Bill Clinton.
Me: A Dunkin customer, young and always (and still) eager to be in front of a camera, wearing a bright red coat that must have gotten the reporter’s attention.
So when the Dose was approached about being interviewed, I said Yes without hesitation… despite my ignorance of that program, which I never watched!
Interview Outcome: A disaster to say the least!
Being swept up in the moment does have a way to lure one into all sorts of scenarios. Before rolling the camera, that reporter asked me if I had watched that particular 60 Minutes episode. At that time, me and my notable red coat got caught up on being on tv… so I lied and replied Yes.
And with that lie, I paid the consequence.
After the interview ended, I put out an all-points bulletin (calling friends and family) to alert everyone to watch the 12pm news.
When I watched the clip of my interview, all I heard was a nonsensical babbling young woman looking somewhat foolish on the tv.
Moral of the story: Our desires are strong. Lies have consequences. When appropriate, save yourself and say No.
But keep wearing red coats… it just may attract the right opportunity!

My winter coat is red, as well. Thanks for the heads up.
Glenda – Thanks for sharing! I have owned two red winter coats which have both brought me attention! Be on the lookout!
If you wear red you must speak the truth!!! A lesson learned!
Jean – yes and any color for that matter! 🙂
