Me. Myself. And I.

My Dad was a saint.  With every school writing assignment, he taught me principles of writing as he corrected the grammatical mistakes and ensured my content was appropriately communicated.

His red ink pen was quick to identify the frequency of my sentences starting with the word “I.” My Dad unknowingly foresaw the selfie-generation!

Nothing wrong with selfies, talking about oneself, or starting a sentence with “I.” The problem occurs, like mostmany, all problems when it’s done in excess or to an extreme.

Selfies can be fun to take, and to share, but do it once too often and it becomes too much!

A one-way dialogue about self… well, that’s referred to as a monologue. And unless it’s from a comedian, that, too, can lose an audience.

As for starting many sentences with the word “I” – write three consecutive sentences starting with “I,” then read them out loud. I rest my case.

Me. Myself. And I. Three words that relate to one person. And though singular, that one person’s life connects to others, forming a “we.”

Nothing wrong with those three words, yet when there is a “we”… don’t forget to acknowledge them before you declare “me,” “myself,” or “I”!
