On Thanksgiving Day, we reflect and give thanks. Thanks for our life, connections, and sustenance from that cornucopia of food!
Growing up, our dad implemented a tradition on turkey day. He would ask us, one by one, repeatedly, what one thing we were grateful for, and he proceeded to give us a portion of pistachio nuts based on our response. A really surprising answer meant more nuts; a sarcastic answer led my dad to take nuts away from our pile. 😆
Today, we hear about keeping a gratitude journal—having an attitude of gratitude—but to whom are we giving such thanks?
Could it be that giving thanks reflects the degree to which we are grateful?
Big blessings that we receive tend to get acknowledged in the form of a thank you card sent via USPS! Small blessings, a text. As for those seemingly minor things folks typically give or do for us… they may not make it on the gratitude list or be cause for a head nod or smile.
On this Thanksgiving Day, let’s pair our grateful hearts with expressions of gratitude to the source.
If we made this an everyday event, we would overfill our journals, hardwire our attitudes, and automatically give due to those who do for us!
Happy Thanksgiving!

Thank you, Jeff, for this compliment and your encouragement throughout the years. Happy Thanksgiving to you as well.
June – oh those red finger tips… after the dinner and throughout the week when we, or maybe just I, would sneak into that big bag to eat more pistachios! No wonder our parents purchased the red shelled ones!!
