Because My Mother Said

She told me time after time, “Donna, don’t ever forget, there are more good people on this earth than bad.”

Who’s the she? My mother, who unfortunately died in 1987.

Every now and again, this thought comes back to the Dose. I see acts of good, but the seemingly bad behaviors appear to overpower the news.

During this COVID-19 pandemic, we see the good in others come through like a knight in shining armor racing through the wilderness. Doctors and nurses have stepped in to comfort the dying for those family members who cannot be with their loved ones. Strangers have sponsored meals for hospital workers and tirelessly made face masks for those in need. Apartment dwellers are intentional about looking after the elderly in their building… and company manufacturing plants have been transformed to build the much-needed ventilators.

These acts of kindness have superseded those that felt the need to hoard toilet paper and hand sanitizers.

Yes, there are people who commit evil. There always have been and there always will be.

So, do my Mother’s words still ring true today? Yes. Not only because she said so, but because good overpowers evil and spurs on more good!

Be Good. Do Good.

  1. Your Mom was a wise woman – she passed her wisdom on to you and you have built on her foundation well!
You were blessed with her while she lived, and I am grateful you are passing her blessing on to us!
